Okemah Senior, Chris Beasley, is the recipient of the Oklahoma Career and Technical Education Equity Council’s Breaking Traditions Award! Breaking Traditions is an annual award recognizing outstanding students who have made an impact by breaking traditional barriers by enrolling in a program that is considered nontraditional for their gender.
Chris took a chance as a junior and enrolled at WWTC in the Administrative Support Specialist program, which is predominantly a female enrollment, because he wanted to learn the skills that would help him with his future goal of owning a restaurant. He felt that Fundamentals of Technology, Microsoft Office, Customer Service, Office Management, Accounting, Quickbooks and Digital Marketing would all be valuable skills for being an entrepreneur.
Chris plans to attend college after high school to reach his ultimate goal of owning a restaurant. He is preparing himself for that goal every day. His work ethic shows he values persistence, practice, teamwork, loyalty, punctuality, attendance and other work skills that sometimes can’t be taught.
