Karla SmithKarla Smith, Holdenville, is the assessment coordinator and academic assistant for the Career Advancement Center (CAC) at WWTC. Karla received her start in CareerTech when she became a student in WWTC’s Computerized Information Technology, Administrative Assistant, and Full-Charge Bookkeeper career majors. After completing this major in January of 2008, she was hired by WWTC as an instructor’s assistant.

After working at the position for one and one half years, she advanced into her current position. Karla has also been an instructor for short-term WWTC Business and Industry Services courses where she taught Computer Basics for Seniors and Microsoft Office 2007. For the past three years, she has served on the National Technical Honor Society team, and is also on the the Literacy and Data teams.

Karla's duties include scheduling and administering placement, competency and certification tests, remediation, taking meeting minutes, collecting data, maintaining an assessment filing system for the whole student body, ordering tests and reporting test results. She also oversees COMPASS testing, KeyTrain and WorkKeys training, A.C.T. preparation, Career Ability Testing, Learning Styles Inventory, OK Career Information System, and Education 2020 which is a web-based virtual classroom designed to help students advance in their academic skills.

“The CareerTech program, Computerized Information Technology (now Office Information Technology), gave me the computer and filing skills needed in a business/administrative office setting. Through this career major at WWTC, I received college credit at Seminole State College, where I have decided to complete and obtain my associate’s degree, then transfer to a university to obtain my bachelor’s degree. The CareerTech program here was a stepping stone to something great! Although previously I was not working toward education for my degree, now I have decided to go in that direction, but in business education where I hope to teach in a CareerTech in the future,” said Smith.
