Surgical Technologist

Surgical Technologists handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures and work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to deliver patient care before, during, and after surgery. This major combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experience to ensure that each graduate meets entry-level competencies as a Surgical Technologist

Goal: To prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), Psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

In 2018, WWTC’s Surgical Technology students passed the Association of Surgical Technology National Certification Exam at 17%.

Student Organization

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a national student organization for high school and adult students that promotes career opportunities in the healthcare industry to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to all people. HOSA provides opportunities for students to enhance their personal and leadership qualities through individual and group projects and through skill competitions which are held on local, state, and national levels.


The Surgical Technology program of Wes Watkins Technology Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA), the program has been placed on Probationary Accreditation as of January 16, 2019.
