General Information

The Academic Center is a place where all students have the opportunity to receive extra help to advance reading, writing, technology, communication, and math skills. The Highly Qualified math and science instructors are available to provide the extra help and instruction. The Academic Center also serves as a resource hub for performing research, career exploration and planning, resume and portfolio development, assessments, and interest inventories.

 

ACT Preparation

The American College Test (ACT) is required of all students before they enter college. The Academic Center assists in preparing students to take this test. The academic instructional staff works collaboratively to provide customized instruction to assist students in preparing for the ACT and Compass exams.

 

Career Ability Testing

The Career Ability Placement Survey (CAPS) provides information about your abilities to help you in career planning. The CAPS is a series of tests that will help you understand some of your potential strengths. It provides a prediction of success in specific careers.

 

Compass Testing

All adults are assessed prior to entering the school. The Compass is ACT's computer-adaptive assessment program which helps post-secondary institutions evaluate incoming students' skill level in five subject areas that include reading, writing skills, writing essays, mathematics, and English as a second language. Compass includes placement and diagnostic tests which provide a detailed student profile to determine students' needs.

 

KeyTrain / WorkKeys

WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system measuring "real world" skills that employers believe are critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation, skilled or professional, and at any level of education. KeyTrain is the compete interactive training system for career readiness skills, based on ACT's WorkKeys Assessment System and the National Career Readiness Certificate.

 

Learning Styles Inventory

Students are given a Learning Styles Inventory during the enrollment process. The staff at WWTC feels that it is very important to identify the learning styles of students early during the course of his or her plan of study to ensure proper delivery of curriculum for mastery of skill level.

 

Oklahoma Career and Information System (OKCIS)

This is an internet-based delivery system for accurate, comprehensive, current, and relevant occupational, post-secondary school and financial aid information. OKCIS contains the latest notional, Oklahoma, and local labor market data and projections. OKCIS also includes information on job interview preparation, resume and cover letter creation, how to keep a job, self-employment, and military occupations. OKCIS is designed to support lifelong career exploration, career planning, and decision-making through easy to use, straightforward search and sorting utilities, and an online portfolio for saving information from all system components.
