The Cooperative Math Agreement allows 11th through 12th grade students enrolled in WWTC career majors to take Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, or Calculus taught by a Highly Qualified Teacher. This agreement is approved by the State Board of Education and allows these courses to be transcripted through the student's school to meet high school graduation and Oklahoma's Promise (OHLAP) requirements.
Many hands-on learning activities are used to aid in the understanding of mathematics. WWTC's math makes higher level thinking in mathematics fun while teaching concepts that comply with the state and federal Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards and objectives.
Kites and puzzle cubes are some of the major projects students complete to learn about surface area, properties of parallel lines, area formulas, and angle measures. Students are engaged in real-life problems to enhance understanding of concepts as well as to enjoy learning.
All high school curriculum math classes are taught by a Highly Qualified math teacher. All levels and subject areas of high school mathematics are taught using standard high school math textbooks, A+ software, Smart Technology Student Response System, scientific calculators, graphing calculators, overhead view-screen for TI 84-Plus graphing calculator, overhead transparencies, and various other hands-on tools and projects.
A+ software provides in-depth curriculum content correlated to national (NCTM), state (PASS), and adult standards. Each student is assigned a computer station, a log-on name, a password, and instructions. The appropriate assignments are pre-set and ready for each student when they log on. The comprehensive post-tests provide excellent additional evaluation and are used as a part of each semester grade.
The Smart Technologies Response System is used to take quizzes and review for tests. The response system aids in instruction and student performance. Students can solve problems on the Smartboard from their desk using the Smart Technologies Airliner.
