Cooperative Science

The Cooperative Science Agreement allows 11th through 12th grade students enrolled in WWTC career majors to take Anatomy & Physiology or Biology II taught by a Highly Qualified Teacher. The curriculum taught in the classroom and the laboratory meets state and federal Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) standards. This agreement is approved by the State Board of Education and allows these courses to be transcripted through the student's school to meet high school graduation and Oklahoma's Promise (OHLAP) requirements.

Students participate in many hands-on activities and laboratory projects. The experiences that students gain in the laboratory are engaging and fun. These activities will encourage critical thinking and problem solving skills. The curriculum that is instructed is aligned with Oklahoma PASS and NCTM standards and objectives. Other learning activities include:

  • Hands-on activities
  • Plant and animal identification
  • Human and animal anatomy & physiology
  • Laboratory dissections
  • Microscopy skills
  • Crime scene investigation tactics
  • Biotechnology
  • Genetics experiments

Anatomy & Physiology is a systematic approach to studying the human body and its processes. It is an in-depth study into the regions of the human body and its functions. The course is broken into the different body systems and the functions they perform.

Biology II is a continuation of Biology I with an emphasis on ecology, plant biology, comparative anatomy, zoology, and taxonomy of both plants and animals.

Technology Use:

  • Electronic white board
  • Student response system
  • Scientific calculators
  • Overhead projectors
  • Online access to textbook and assignments
  • Virtual dissections
  • A variety of educational videos
  • State of the art microscopes
  • A variety of preserved organisms for in-depth study in the lab
  • A science mystery at the beginning of every chapter
